How safe are my mail messages, really?

Truthfully, they aren't at all. 

MySQIF’s principals have known for decades that global encryption was compromised in 1993 under the Clinton Administration. Secretly mandated backdoors remain embedded in hardware, software, and firmware today. 

At the time, polymorphic encryption and real-time one-time key exchanges did not exist.
